Time has gotten away from us. Summer has quickly turned into fall here in the great city of Austin, TX. We’ve stored our beach volleyballs and sunscreen out in the garage, and pulled our dirty sweaters out from the closet as we return to the halls of academia in pursuit of higher education. School zones are back in effect, yellow busses flood the streets every morning and afternoon, and crossing guards are the most in-demand job right now! DTD HQ has been abuzz with new projects and new ideas about how to best share our love of music to everybody on the world wide web. First on our list, the revival of the podcast!
We sat down with War Party this week to talk about the growing music scene in Ft. Worth and some of the challenges an independent band faces in regards to music distribution and touring. I’ll be the first to admit, the audio quality is not the greatest. I arrived at DTD HQ a little late on the day we recorded and was greeted by 7 people, all wanting to contribute to the conversation. I was wholly unprepared for the occasion on a technical level. I own a small Behringer mixer, 3 vocal microphones, and 3 XLR cables to connect said microphones to said mixer. Naturally, each of your hosts get a microphone, leaving me with only 1 extra microphone to record the guest. So, you do the math. I think most of the sound levels out after the first 5 minutes when we just pointed the microphones to the ceiling instead of mine and Stephanie’s mouths. Yes, it is quiet. Yes, awkward questions are asked. That’s because we are not professionals, but we had a lot of fun doing it and plan on making each successive episode better than the last.
